2 vista beta questiosn build 5231

2 Vista Beta questiosn Build 5231

I am a Technet subscriber and I have Vista Beta Build 5231. I have tried installing this on a couple of Virtual PC's and also a Computer with an Intel motherboard. On all setups I can't get my video to look normal. Everything is in 4bit resolution at 800 x 600. Is there a way to get this to a 32bit?
Second question is there a way to get into the MCE from this build? I would love to see what it looks like and play around with it.
Thanks!

Guess the first question is what video card are you using? ... with that, is there a driver that supports it??
I'd like to know about MCE also ...

The real answer to this is that Virtual PC does not support Windows Vista currently. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm

I am not using Virtual PC with this install. This is a stand alone system. It has a Intel motherboard in it D845GVSR. I looked it up on the Intel's website, but there is no Vista Video Driver there. The Video card is built into the motherboard.

It sounds like you're using the most basic of drivers *just* to let you actually see whats on the screen. If you are using on-board graphics, then your motherboard/graphics are not supported properly, so think about getting a new graphics card.
If you run Vista in VPC or any virtual computer program, it'll run just the same as this. To help you get a compatible card, check out www.zacknet.co.uk/vistabase - click on Graphics then the "Device drivers" part for Nvida and ATI. Yeah we could use the latest build, as soon as us Technet subscribers get it!

if you will recommended people to buy new hardware, it is important to check the websites for vista drivers, some have them, many dont, and would be a waste of money to buy it for this purpose, if its not going to work

Actually, any driver developed for Vista now is a beta really and can be broken by the next CTP. Similar case with Windows XP Professional x64, RC1 drivers or beta drivers are not compatible with the RTM version. Make sure you update that database as the beta progresses. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm

To be honest though... the only expression I can really say in text form for 64bit drivers is... "Eeeesssshhhhhkkkkk!!!!" very loudly :op

Well I can apply the same case with Windows Vista, my nVidia Geforce FX 5200 128MB AGP Card and my Creative Sound Blaster Live 5.1 Card worked flawlessly out of the box in build 5112, then I had install drivers manually for SB Live in 5219, then I had to install the drivers manually again in 5231, this time in Safe Mode, same case for 5270, and the bundled driver for my Video card is very unstable for my Geforce FX. I hope users just realize that drivers in Vista are always subject to change. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm

With regard to MCE, there should be a folder in the start menu for Media Centre, then you will have the Media Centre app...
